Toyota 4Runner, known as “Speedmaster” in China, is the brother model of Prado, with different appearance and interior, which is a relatively unpopular model.
But since the early 2000s, Lexus has offered what’s basically its version of the 4Runner in the form of the GX—and while it may never have the same name recognition as its Toyota counterpart, some consider the GX a superior machine. And for many years it delivered more for the money as a used purchase.
It’s never been a secret that the GX shares the 4Runner’s reputation for capability and reliability but in a more luxurious-branded package. They’ve always held their value relatively well.
LDR Body kit can upgrade 4Runner to a new Lexus Style
In terms of appearance, the most obvious part of the upgraded GX460 is the change of the front grille. Compared with the old horizontal bar grille, the 2020 GX460 adopts the whole more three-dimensional family-style spindle-shaped grille, which is denser.
In addition, although the shape design of the headlight has not changed, the internal light source has been upgraded from the old xenon gas to three LED light sources, and the style of the daytime running light also adopts a more obvious “L” shape design, which is very rich in details, high recognition.
the side chrome anti-rubbing strips have also been removed on the new model, so the side of the new GX460 looks simpler and more low-key.
The GX460 and 4Runner V8 share the same chassis, engine and driveline. The GX uses a shifter for the transfer case (but the unit is the same. The GX also has adjustable shocks for firmness and rear air suspension (rear air can be had on the 4Runner). Also some GX’s are equipped with KDSS which is quite a nice upgrade over XREAS option on 4Runners.
The body of the GX is where most of the differences are, the biggest being the grille. Obviously it comes down to personal choice if someone wants to pay the extra $$$ for all the extra features.
